The Ripple Effect

What is more effective? Making a big splash or throwing a pebble creating a ripple effect?  Mitch Joel, author, speaker, & social media guru,  describes what he calls the “The Ripple Effect” in his book Six Pixels of Separation.  Someone who joins us for the next Foundation course will walk away with a free copy of this book.
Following the most recent earth quake in Haiti one couldn’t ignore how easy it was to give and support this great cause. If you haven’t already supported an organization we encourage you to do so.

However if you’ve noticed many of the cries for help have changed. Many organizations were quick to offer help, but other organizations are taking this opportunity to talk about “The Ripple Effect”.

They are saying, while its important to give one time gifts a more powerful way to make an impact is to partner with organizations on a consistent basis. But more importantly its important to partner with those who have 1) been in Haiti for years and 2) who will be in Haiti for years to come. Everyone wants to help now which is great. However this is a great example of making a splash.

In the world of American Idols, obviously everyone wants to make it big. Everyone is looking for the next “Get Rich Quick” plan. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t been tempted by this mindset?

While making it on American Idol isn’t a bad thing, we must realize that those who are in it for the long haul or those who are willing to embrace the philosophy of “slow and steady wins the race” are those businesses and organizations.

Social Media provides a way unlike any other time in history to engage your community. Choosing to engage your customers allow them  to connect a face to your brand and thus in turn build a long term relationship instead that can keep on giving.

So the question is, how are you embracing “The Ripple Effect” in your business?
