Beware: Any Admin can delete FB Page

Do you know who “owns” your Facebook page? Up until this week it was the original creator of the page. While this makes perfect sense, it has created some unfortunate problems over the past couple of years. Why does it make a difference who is the owner of your page? Take for example…

- If an employee created your business page from his personal account and is fired… what happens?

- If you sell the business and you created the facebook page from your personal account…. what happens?

And the list goes on…

The easiest way around this was to create a non-descript / general email simply to create a Facebook account. But remember to log out of your personal account first before doing so.

The only other hurdle has been that any administrator could actually delete the Facebook page, which obviously has its potential issues. So be sure you trust who you add as an administrator.

This past week, Facebook announced a new change. Original Owners can now be removed. Finally a way to transfer the ownership to someone else.

But WAIT a minute, who can remove the originator? Any administrator? Yup!

We believe that while Facebook’s intention was trying to answer a problem they created another problem. What is the solution?

Create Sub administrators: These people do not need privileges to delete the page

Transfer of Ownership: Original creator should be able to transfer ownership to another Facebook user.

Call to Action:

- Contact Facebook and voice your opinion (and maybe a year from now it’ll be changed)
- If you don’t have a Facebook account, create a non-descript email not associated with any one individual
- Be careful who you give administrative privileges to.
