More Updates from Facebook!

It seems as though Facebook is not finished making changes. Just yesterday, we told you about 3 significant changes that Facebook made affecting Fanpages and Profiles.  Today, we noticed that Facebook has made changes to the home page and how things appear on it.

Starting at the top, the first thing you’ll notice is that as you scroll down, the blue header at the top of the page is locked to the top of your screen. As you scroll down, the Facebook header doesn’t move. This way, you can access your profile, your account info, or search for someone or something without having to scroll back to the top of the page.

Another update involves the news feeds. The “Top News” and “Most Recent” links at the top are gone. Facebook has now organized the stories all on the home page, eliminating the need to click on the “Top News” or “Most Recent” links to switch back and forth between the two.

The first 4 or 5 items in your feed are under a heading called “Recent Stories”. These are what would have been the at the top of your “Most Recent” feed. Below those items, are your “Top News” items. These have a little shaded triangle in the upper left corner of the item, by the profile thumbnail. With both of these items, you can click the down arrow in the upper right of the update and decide whether you would like to mark or remove as a top story, hide the story, report the story as spam, or hide all by that person/organization. You really can customize the look of your news feed, with posts and updates only by the people you want to see.

The last update we’ll go over today is a live update feature. In the upper right side of your home page, just below the blue banner at the top, that is where the live updates from your friends and likes will appear. As they post something, or reply to something, you’ll see it there – as it happens. If you hover over an update, you’ll see the post, image, or link. You’ll also be able to comment on the post, or “Like” the business right there. There seems to be lots of click-saving with this update.

Now, these updates have not been universally made throughout Facebook. Some of us here in the office have access to these new features, and some of us do not. Facebook appears to be slowly rolling these updates out. Have the updates been made to your account? What do you think about them? Let us know. Comment below!
